- ABOUT US -
EllieChoc is a small, local based business specialising in handcrafted ethical gifts.
We believe that it is our responsibility to conduct our business in such a way that we not only minimise any negative impact on people or planet but actively support carefully chosen projects. We do this so you can enjoy our products with a clear conscience.
We have brought you a carefully selected range of handmade products from around the world chosen for their ethical and fairly traded credentials. We hope you love them as much as we do.
We choose quality ethical ingredients favouring local, organic and fairly traded products. We source our chocolate from a variety of sources to ensure a balance of different flavours. Some is certified Fairtrade and Organic couveture with Fairtrade cocoa and sugar, bought directly from farmers with a supplementary premium. Some is from the Growing Great Chocolate programme which improves farmers lives and helps ensure the future supply of cocoa. We also use a range of couveture from Columbia where much more of the processing, and therefore profit, is kept within the country, benefiting their farmers. Their focus is firmly on sustainability, true origin and premium cocoa products with the beans that are harvested being made into couveture in Columbia using cocoa butter from the same beans and local sugar, all ingredients being fully traceable.
We refuse to use harmful additives such as AZO flavouring and favour natural ingredients such as our 100% pure and natural dried fruit. We list all our ingredients on the product pages.
We also have our Bean To Bar range made in Garstang – the world's first Fair Trade Town – using cocoa beans from the Fairtrade cooperative Kuapa Kokoo, Ghana. Bean to Bar is the process of making the chocolate from the cocoa beans involving roasting, winnowing, adding ingredients, grinding and tempering.
The packaging we purchase is chosen for its eco credentials or because it is fairly traded. The food grade bags we use are by natureflex and will decompose naturally, many of the gift boxes are fairly traded from India and provide excellent working conditions, good pay and benefits. The recycled fairly traded handmade paper used is made from 100% cotton waste using an environmentally friendly process. We also reuse packaging in particular material for padding parcels and packing boxes themselves or purchase recycled packaging for example our shredded paper is made from recycled coffee cups.
We are based in South Ribble, near Preston, and can be found at local markets as well as being online.
